CMH golf benefit raises $80,000 for new breast center

The 20th Annual Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation Golf Classic brought in $80,000. The proceeds will help equip the new breast center under development at CMH. The center will provide local women with access to the same quality of care you would find in a major metropolitan area.

Located in the Calvert Medical Arts Center on the main hospital campus, the center brings together an experienced team of breast health experts to provide comprehensive and coordinated care for women -- from outreach and screening to diagnosis and treatment, all in one comfortable and convenient location.

Proceeds from this year's Harvest Ball will also go toward the center. Mark your calendars now for Saturday, Nov. 14. The popular event is moving to the Show Place Arena and will feature a cocktail reception, catered dinner, auction and dancing.

"I think it was one of the best tournaments we've ever had," said Pat Petricko, event chair and foundation trustee. "It was awesome."

She said the change in venue to Lake Presidental Golf Club in Upper Marlboro was well received. "We had 17 teams in the morning and 27 in the afternoon," said Petricko. "The course was in pristine shape. The golfers loved it."

Since the tournament began it has netted more than $760,000. CMH President and CEO Jim Xinis recognized the tournament's major sponsors at the awards dinner. "We're especially grateful to our corporate sponsor Maryland Bank & Trust," said Xinis. "Iatric Systems was responsible for the great golfer's gifts you received today."

"We'd also like to thank our breakfast sponsor Pat Petricko/Remax 100," he said, "Ricoh Americas Corp., our lunch sponsor and TSI Exterior Wall Systems, our dinner sponsor. Ricoh has been supporting the Golf Classic for 12 years. Vic Cornellier of TSI is a past hospital board chair and his wife, Julie, is a foundation board member and a past ball chair."

Additionally, he recognized Ryder Sponsors -- All American Ambulance, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, Wanda and Michael King, MedStar Health and Ober,Kaler, Grimes and Shriver, Attorneys at Law.

Some 41 sponsors including physician groups, hospital vendors and county businesses participated in this year's event. Other local sponsors included American Radiology Services, Calvert Internal Medicine Group, Capital Food Service, Inc., Community Bank of Tri-County, Dippel & Co., Freedom Office Productions, Lankford Sysco, Lasting Impressions, Moore Wallace, Networking Concepts, Prince George's Federal Savings & Loan, Show Place Arena and Walgreens.

Xinis also expressed his appreciation to hole-in-one sponsors Old Glory Harley Davidson of Laurel and Winegardner Auto Group. He extended special thanks to Pat Petricko who has been on the committee for all 20 years. "Thank you for your longtime support."

It was chilly in the morning but warmed up in the afternoon. This year's event drew the largest field ever. Taking first place in Division I was Maryland Bank & Trust. The DM Group capped the top slot in Division II and the twosome of Doug Milne and John Bennett outpaced all contenders in Division III.
