CMH board chairman elected to MHA

Dean Schleicher

Owings resident Dean Schleicher was elected to serve on the Maryland Hospital Association's Executive Committee at the group's annual membership meeting earlier this month. Schleicher is currently chairman of the Calvert Memorial Hospital Board of Directors.

MHA is the advocate for Maryland Hospitals, health systems and their patients before legislative and regulatory bodies. Its members include community and teaching hospitals, health systems, specialty and veterans hospitals, as well as long-term care facilities.

Schleicher has been a trustee on the Calvert board since 1999 and has served on numerous committees. He was named board chairman in 2007. CMH President and CEO Jim Xinis praised Schleicher's strong leadership skills and management experience.

"He has played a major role in every major policy-making decision during his nine years of service," said Xinis. "And certainly his healthcare background is an asset to our community board."

Schleicher is a senior program analyst with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management in the Program Planning and Evaluation Group. He is the project leader for the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program annual open enrollment period and he evaluates health plan performance on various quality measures.

Schleicher was instrumental in advocating for the publishing of health plan accreditations and results from the Consumer's Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems in the Guide to Federal Benefits.

Schleicher will serve as a Trustee Councillor-at-Large and MHA Executive Committee member for a one-year term. He lives in Owings with his wife, Terry, and their children Andrew, Allison and Katherine.
