In response to the current H1N1 flu conditions and prevalence in the region, CMH will be restricting visitors by asking that starting Monday, October 19, 2009, NO children under the age of 18 visit patients in the hospital. CMH wants to keep the children in the community as safe as possible given their vulnerability for the flu and also protect patients who may be at high risk for the flu and other medical complications. This information is being released in local papers, on the web site and there will be signage at the entrances. This practice is consistent with many other organizations across the region.
Family Birth Center clients should be discouraged to bring in young children to visit Mom after a delivery if the child has any symptoms or has been recently exposed to the flu. Newborns are especially high risk. Children other than siblings should not visit the FBC. When communicating this policy change please make sure you explain that we are doing this for the health and wellbeing of the children and our vulnerable patients and to put in place measures to reduce the spread of the H1N1 flu in out community. As we monitor the impact of the flu to the hospital and community further restrictions and visitor screening may be implemented in accordance with our Pandemic Plan.
